Default Carving/Cutting Letters

HELP! Anyone have any experience with carving out or cutting out small letters? I'm trying to make a name plate and I'm not sure what is the best way of going about this for the best results.

Thanks

Are you going to carve each individual letter and then mount it or carve the letter on one piece of wood? If the latter, trace the letters and then carve them as you would any relief carving. You can find numerous lettering patterns or designs. Check Hobby Lobby, Wal-mart, or anywhere they sell craft supplies.

Try chip carving. Lends itself easily to small letters and you only need 1 knife.
