Default Carving Books

I have been looking for books on carving and these ar ethe books I have found that look good: Wood spirits and Green Men, Relief Carving wood spirits, carving gargoyles, grotesques and other creatures of myth, the complete book of woodcarving, Celebrating birch, Make your own walking sticks, carving cypress knees, Carving found wood, andSwedish carving techniques by willie sundquist. Which of these books are good for beginners and are there any more?

It depends on what YOU want to carve. If you are looking for inspiration, you might find some ideas in the Carvers Image Galleries. If you want to discover the experience of carving. pick up a sharp tool and a piece of wood.

I can tell you that the "Celebrating Birch" is not a carving book per se.

Everett Ellenwood's new book is fantastic for someone just starting out. He gets down to the hard facts of the nature of wood itself, and ways to work withit.

Go to Google Books
You can look through some books and get a general idea if they're worth buying or not.

Click on fox chapel of the right of this page for carving books. they have a preview of quite a few of there books. One I liked when I started was carving egg heads by Mary Finn but that was because she had you make your own study stick for eyes, nose, closed mouth, open mouth. and that is just my opinion lots of other good one around.

There was a tutorial on rifle stock carving with detailed instructions. It's good if you like micro relief carving.
Now the author moved it into a new book. He also has a book on silver inlay. Though, he wants $50 for each.
Tutorial on Carving

Last time I checked, there was no recession in the gun market.

I have found that Tom Wolfe's books are really good.
I bought, Woodspirits and Walking Sticks, and Bears
and Bunies. I was wanting to buy a few more of his
books but I am not sure which ones to buy.

For someone just starting out it's all kind of hard. The
more I work at it the less mistakes I seem to make.
Same mistakes I mean.

I seem to like to work on wordspirits and animals 3D, not
just carved flat on wood. Does anyone have any ideas of
the next Tom Wolfe I should get. Is there some books more
for beginners or more skilled. I just don't want to get a
book that is out of my league right now.
Plus does anyone know of any other author that I might
enjoy. Thank you!

Two authors that come immediately to mind are, Shawn Cipa, and, Mike Shipley.
Both have a good mix of simple and more advanced projects.
Good hunting...
