cane? I have a 11/2" Basswood cane 60" and very hard. I would like to try carve this with incidental item ? I can't use any large tools, just my small hand Knives, I do also have a Multi cordless Dremel and lots osf small bits Will the Hardness be a problem ? From Denis (jocko) ConnollyThank You |

Hi Denis, it shouldn't be a problem. I carve Sycamore, Melaleuca and some fruitwood (Lemon). They are all very hard. You just have to go slowly. It's more about you getting used to the wood. Good luck.

Hello Denis I agree with Ron, I also have carved many different woods including wild cherry from my area and all kinds of exotics. The best thing to do is to just keep at it and build up the strength, also do you use any sort of a vise to hold it in while working? I have some basswood that is harder then hard maple, and I know it's basswood because I cut the tree down, there is some hard stuff out there and kiln drying can often make it harder.
