hello, i'm yoskay, a working artist in los angeles california. i have been carving for 2 years and always been working with basswood. i wanted to try out different wood material for my next body of work. i have heard, butternut, cypress, cherry, and mahogany are easier to work with. i was wondering where to buy those kind of wood? if anybody have a lumber yard or store that they can recommend to me i would much appreciate it. thank you. |

Welcome to the forum! They are not particularly cheap, but Rockler and Woodcraft both have quite a few different woods including many exotics that wood turners like. I know there's a Rockler in Pasadena, but don't know of others any closer. The other thing to do is take the old fashioned Yellow Pages and look up Lumber Yards. You could also go to Google.com and search for "Lumber Yard Los Angeles" (without the quotes). Claude |

You being in L.A. will have dozens of exotic wood suppliers...look in the yellow pages...for butternut...you can go to Heinecke (and basswood) imo
