I've broken the tip off three of my knives. The first two, members of my carving club reshaped for me. The third one I did myself. I don't have the words to explain it without pictures. Several of the more experienced members here on the forum have described the process very well, and hopefully they'll chime in. You might check this thread, Girl carver repairs broken knife tip!, for some hints.

You might get in touch with Flexcut--I had them re-shape a gouge I dropped on the concrete floor of my garage! Their customer service was first rate and I had the tool back in no time! Here is the link to customer service! Customer Service | Flexcut Tool Company Good Luck! Tim |

I have dropped my Flexcut detail knife on the concrete floor three times; each time I lost around 3/16 inch of blade. To fix the knife, use your stone or some sandpaper to grind away the back of the blade to reshape it. Leave the edge alone. If you use a power grinder or sanding belt, touch the back of the blade to it for only a few seconds, then dunk the blade in water. You have to make very sure you don't overheat the blade from friction, as it will lose it's temper and break again very easily. If the blade when you pick it up off the grindstone is too hot to touch with your fingers, it's way to hot. More info here: Girl carver repairs broken knife tip! Claude |
