Default Birdseye Elm Burle

I used this block of elm as the backdrop for my wood spirit carving.
Does anyone here have any experience carving elm. I am fairly certain it is european elm, but it could be some other member of the ulmus family.
I am wondering what to do with such a nice looking piece of wood.

Why not carve it?

I guess I thought that was implied... I was wanting suggestions for subject matter. What should I carve that would compliment the awesome natural grain here.

Wow what a beatiful piece of wood what ever you carve leave it natural and show that birdseye. That would make some fantastic knife handles.

Whatever comes out of it will be a beautifully grained carving. That grain runs wild and colorerful.

Have not carved elm but my first thought was it would make a nice peacock but it would take a lot better carver than me to accomplish it

Since we used to have several Elm trees in our back yard, I know it's a 'Haaaard' wood! Never tried to carve it, but knew it was pretty tough stuff... Your piece sure looks beautiful with all the 'eyes' in it and the great looking grain...sure to be a wonderful asset to any carving you might decide to make of it...just please be sure and leave it natural so everyone can enjoy it's beauty!!! Enjoy!
