Default Bird Houses

Hi,
I'm pretty new to woodcarving and have found the I enjoy doing caricatures as they don't have to be 'perfect'. I started out doing some Santa carvings from Tom Wolfe's book, as I didn't have a band saw to cut out my own blanks, and have tried my hand at working a few rough outs from what use to be Rossiter Roughouts . . . by the way, is working a piece like that (a rough out) considered 'cheating'?
Anyway, I have found the peace and tranquility that wood carving has to offer and in the meantime found a hobby that brings me a lot of pleasure.
My final question is this:
Does anyone know something about Monte Spinker and the Face Birdhouses he makes? (Faces in which the bird flies up the nose to enter the house) I would like to see something in the way of plans or an idea about how to go about carving something like this.
Thanks for any input anyone may have.

No such thing as cheating. All's fair in love and war!

Looks fairly straight forward. The front piece of the bird house appears to be carved in the image of a carricature face. You could use almost any woodspirit tutorial as a guide and modify it accordingly. Lora Irish's book on GreenMen and Woodspirits might give you some ideas.
