Heinecke Wood Products is the best source for basswood.

Big Ed is correct about Heinecke. If you have to pay freight, you MAY be able to find a local source.

But, you could be a little more specific - What kind of wood, how big, and/or for what project?

Also, look at the "similar threads" at the bottom of the page for previous questions on where to buy wood, or try the search function.

www.johnsonwoodproducts.com
Another great place, but located in Iowa. Very nice northern air dried basswood, and Randall has other exotics that are great for bases. Again freight would be an issue but i have used them for a long time and have never had a bad piece.

Wall Lumber in Mayodan, NC. Has good prices but then you need to figure freight unless you can use one of his "bundles".

I don't know if this is true in every case ....but when I calculate wood that is advertised in carving books.... even when I add the shipping ....Heinecke is cheaper in price.....and you cannot find better wood anyplace......before I started using Heineke wood...some of the wood i got other places was so pithy you could not put very much detail in your carvings ...or be so hard... it was hard to carve....imho never got a bad piece of wood from them...... each piece of wood is stamped...USDA choice.... lol

If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert , in five years there'd be a shortage of sand.

Howdy Shane; I give a BIG AMEN to the Heinecke Bros. Wood suppliers. They are great. Nice to do business with and I have NEVER been disapointed with the wood they send!!
