Default Beginner knives wood etc....?

Hi
Its my first post. I am interested in Chip Carving and possibly some relief carving down the road. What are some good knives to get me started.. not cheap but not going to break the bank also??
Also places to buy basswood ... is it available at HD, Lowes, menards????

Default Re: Beginner knives wood etc....?

Marty at Mychipcarving.com can help you. If you're chip carving, you only need one knife and some way to keep it sharp. I haven't found basswood at a Lowes or other stores similar to that. I've ordered online. Are you in Minnesota? If you're near the TCs., the Minnesota Viking Woodcarvers have a monthly meeting in Bloomington and they usually have wood to purchase.
You need different knives for relief than you do for chip.
