Not a bad start, since this is your first one just take your time. You will learn alot by the time you get done with it and the next one will be even better. You have a project that looks to be pretty challenging for a first carving. I would like to see how it turns out.

Hi Phil and welcome to the group. Your owl is coming along quite well. Don't worry about the time it takes to carve. You don't punch a clock when carving.

Take your time and have fun.

Phil, I think your rounding over is coming along fantastically for where you are at in the carving.

I really like that you are working a little over all the design to set your general shape at this point in the carving. Keep that up! By working some in each area and slowly developing your shape you create a consistant look to the entire work.

You can also make quick adjustments to each area by working the piece as a whole instead of as part.

Great start!

An update of my recent work. I have most of the owl done, but will like to have some advice on how to carve the peak and the eye. In these photos you also can see I had accidiently cut a piece off in the left hand side, does any body have a good suggestion how to fix it?

Some more photos in the next page.
