Default Beginner Books-Two Short Reviews

Greetings Seasoned!!!!

I have not had too much time to get back to this board. Been carving up a storm, actually just cowboy boots, nativity pieces, Gene Messer's bear and a cute dog.

My brother gifted me with a wonderful book, "The Complete Book of Woodcarving" by Everett Ellenwood. It is perfect for a beginner carver like me who knows from nothing! It is chocked full of really helpful information and probably gives out more infomation on sharpening than you want to know. The section on painting is very helpful and especially well done.

The other book that I own and really enjoy in one that I bought from Mac Proffit from Smokey Mountain Woodcarver's supply in Townsend, TN. It is called "First Projects for Woodcarvers" by Larry Green and Mike Altman. Mac includes this book with his beginner carving kit. I bought it separately since I already had my beginner kit from Little Shavers. It is perfect for the beginner. I have already done the Cowboy boot, Gandolf the Dog and the Nativity pieces.

My next project will be a cowboy hat. Perhaps I should first do Gene Messer's Sadie and Rufus. Those are not in this book but on You Tube Videos that Gene produces and also featured in another book on the Ozark Style of Carving. I guess I like buying books! It is about fun, isn't it?

One of these days I will get brave enough to paint some of the projects after I study the painting portion of the frist book I recommended.

This is fun! I am having a great time and I still have all my finger!

Happy Holidays!
