Does anyone know of a service or person that is willing to cut out some bandsaw blanks? I am working with book by Marv Kaisersatt and I don't own a bandsaw yet. |

See if there is a carving club in your area. Also Highschool shops might be of use. Lastly, Have a look on Craigslist and see if you cant find a bandsaw for under 50.00. I just saw one here for 25.00. Good luck, Dan |

What book do you have? If it is the one with caricature heads only, you don't need to do any cut-outs, you just need square blocks of wood. Gilles

I went years without a bandsaw and honestly, its a great tool but most people didnt have these sitting in their garage even 50 years ago, let alone 100 or more. Depending on the carving youre doing, a bandsaw might not be a necessity. I know, I was one who thought it was. Now that I have one its much easier, yes, but if you cant drop the cash on one dont sweat it. Use a block thats the size of your carving and just start removing material. Using larger stock? Use a coping saw or spend $50 bucks and get a cheap jig saw. If youre not cutting huge things like ducks and bigger, buy a small little bench band saw for under $100 new at Sears, your local hardware store or someplace similar. Its really easy to work around the saw problem with some creativity. Hope that helps, Duane
