| | Ashley Iles Tools Hi! I have some Ashley Iles tools and am impressed with them! I don't see mention of them here. I know they're a bit hard to get, but any opinions on them? Or anyone wanting to part with theirs?
Thanks!

| | Re: Ashley Iles Tools I have some and I love 'em! And NO ya can't have mine! They are one of the few brands that come SHARP from the shop......they actually have a silicone or wax type cover melted onto the tip so they don't get messed up before they are sold.
I've found mine at Rockler, but have been told by the "carving" guys at several Rockler stores that, because of low interest in carving, Rockler (or at least some of the individual stores) is thinking about cutting back or doing away with their carving section. We need more input!
Ashly Isles tools are quite heavy compared to some and I use them mostly for bigger work, although I have never bought many of the smaller size gouges. Well, just recently picked up a couple of their veiners but haven't had a chance to try them yet.
We're making another foray to the "city" next week so maybe I'll hit the Rockler joints again and see what's happening. Hope to make it into Lehman's, for some Henry Taylors, too!
Speaking of Rockler's.....if ya get into one of those stores, ASK for the "Carving Guy"! He'll talk your arm off if he finds out you are a carver, and most that I've met have a lot of good advice on tools, techniques, finishes, styles and all kindsa good junk! Plus, as I said, they don't get a lot of carvers so the poor guys (and gals) are lonely!

| | Re: Ashley Iles Tools Ashley Iles are great tools. Highly recommend their V gouges. They are nicely grounded and easier to shape and sharpen. Tools are a personal choices try various makes. I have found out with time that every make has something different for example here are three of my favorite caving tool from various makes: Ashley Iles, bent V tools perfect for details; Pfeil swiss made, great fish tail; and Flexcut has great flat gouges for finishing background in relief carving.
