Default 8 point star and spoon

Thanks to Arleen from the carverswoodshop for the inspiration on the star. The spoon is made from pine. The star was farly simple to carve.

Neat star Rick! Are you going to put a finish on it?

I am carving a bunch of those stars for Xmas ornaments for the grandkids. They are fun. I would like a finish that does not completely cover the wood features; something translucent maybe, Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like em Rick! A red wooden spoon would look great. Thanks for sharing them.

Stan Any acrylic paint should do the trick. On a scrap piece of wood try the paint full strength, then full strength where you wiped it off while it was still wet. Then try it watered down 1/2 (1 part paint - 2 parts water). Try it 1/4. Try it 1/8. Try wiping/not wiping. Try 2 water downed coats (washes). What to you like best? Try this for each colour you are using as opacity/translucence will vary from colour to colour. Hope this helps.

Jay

Thanks Jay. Sounds like a good plan. Personally I do not like carving that are painted so that they look like a plastic molded piece. Yah, I know that color adds, but what price is paid.
