| | 1st carving show I attended the Great Lakes Carving Show today, and I learned so much...I think I understand this honing and stroping, and several of the sellers, gave me there tools and showed me and let me use them, ......one guy uses the wet/dry sanding paper, and showed me his jig he made to set up for the paper and strop...
I did buy another knife from Dunkle, very nice guy and willing to let you handle and use the knifes....probably be getting stitches soon...just can't believe how sharp the tools are....digging out my medical card...
seen some incredible work, and everyone was willing to show and tell, and it was a great time.....and looking for another show....

| | Re: 1st carving show Dennis,
Carving shows can teach you a bunch. It can pump up your ego when you see carvings & you beleive your's are just as good. It can also humble you very fast when you see the work of some fantastic artists. I attend everyone I can.
I've been buying knives from John Dunkle for 3 or 4 years ( can't have enough knives ). I don't think , IMO, you can buy a better knife. |

| | Re: 1st carving show Viperstooth....there is the Woodworking Show coming up in Moncton in November, always a few carving exhibits there and the Moncton Carving Club put on a display. KV Woodcarving Supplies from down your way is a regular attender as is that carver/Carving Shop from Pictou, NS. The show then goes to Halifax, where they involve the Halifax carving community.
Good show, but a lot of walking!

The North Alabama Woodcarvers in Huntsville have a show in November. I don't have the date right now but it usually is the 2nd weekend in November at the Depot Museum. I will look it up and post it here when I find it.
Here is the info: Nov. 5-6. 24th Annual Mid-South Woodcarving Show & Competition – North Alabama Woodcarvers Association, HUNTSVILLE, AL (Huntsville Depot Museum Roundhouse, 320 Church St.). Sat. 9am-5pm & Sun. 10am-5pm. Free adm. Roland Smith, P.O. Box 2235, Huntsville, AL 35804, 256-881-5052; Don Perkinson, 256-881-5897; or Jay Brasher, NAWA_Info@yahoo.com. GaryMc

| | Re: 1st carving show Viperstooth.....I try to make it every year, lets just say I hope to, but not sure this year. The show always gives me a boost, seeing what's going on, what's new in tools, talking to the regular suppliers and carvers. But, it does take a lot out of me, it's a big place and a lot of walking for me.Bob | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
