Default A Xmas Spirit

I just carved (whittled) this Santa for my wife. Compared to what I saw in the other posts, I find mine basic, but it's my first one and that's what I had in mine. I didn't want a normal Santa. When I gave it to my wife, she said that it looked a bit like me, specially the eyes and the serious look...

I should have time to do a couple more before Xmas.

Gilles - that's a very nice little (?) Santa. What is his size? I think if he's as small as a tree ornament it would be wonderful.

It's about 4".

Maybe a bit too large to put in a tree. Just perfect for a shelf. In my mind, I thought 'little" but it's not THAT little after all... You should see what is large for me. It's not inches anymore but feet...

I have another in mind for me. Ideally, for my taste, I would like to use a cypress knee. But I would have to order one, so I will use basswood for now.

I forgot to tell you about this detail.

This is my first wood spirit, which is a Xmas Spirit. And the tree where he is normally hiding and sleeping is painted on the bottom. I will do the same with the other wood spirits I will carve. That's my way of telling a story... "One Picture is Worth Ten Thousand Words" as they say.

That's a neat Santa, Gilles. I like how you painted the tree on the bottom. Great job, keep 'em coming.

Thanks, I can only add that you guys all (everybody) are my inspiration. And the more I carve, the more I want to carve to tell a story with my carvings, not just carve.

And yes Gene, I carved the cat too, in a sense... I carved her character to make "her" what she is today...

Now, if only I could be able to carve faster. But that's another story...

Giles - Right this minute I have a cat (a very young cat) napping on the upper right side of my keyboard. Her brother is using my nice, padded office chair and I'm sitting on a hard, metal folding chair.
