| | FINISHED... My Second Carving. It's a Mike Shipley Snowman. I have it pretty well roughed in and still have some thinning and rounding to do. Now if I can just avoid breaking the nose off before I get it down to size I will be happy. Here are a few shots of the progress.
Thanks for looking,
Corey

| | Re: Started My Second Carving..... Corey,
You are off to yet another great start and I am anxious to see it finished.
Be sure to keep it in the freezer between carving sessions so it don't melt

| | Re: Started My Second Carving..... Thanks guys. It seems in inevitable that this nose is going to break, the grain runs the wrong way for such a little detail. If it does break i may just carve it flat and insert a birch dowel and carve it down. If I soaked the nose in CA glue would the paint still stick to it?
Thanks!

| | Re: Started My Second Carving..... the CA will indeed "toughen" the wood, but it also will build up on the surface if you are not careful....and doesn't want to sand off very well...so use it sparingly. |
