Â*When I got my Colwood I realized how much more could be done with it. Â*I even use that to 'sign' my pieces...love it! Â*Callynne

I have a Colwood too...they work like a champ! Allows you to make fine, fine marks where no v-tool could dream of. I made some 1/16 sized hay bales for my son's John Deere hay wagon putting the strings in with a v-tool and did all the individual hay stalks with the burner. They look great and even turned out the right color after burning. Gotta be careful though, since it opens up a whole new way to spend your time!

Teri - If you going to do woodburning you definitely need to scrap the hobby burner and get one of the better units. The heat is almost instantaneous and is maintained better. Also the fine wire tips available allow for finer work. There are several out there that are good units. The particular one I have (an SMC) is a dual burner unit and I almost always wonder why I didn't get the single burner unit. Anybody have any thoughts on single vs dual burner units.

Eddy, I'm not certain what you mean by single vs dual unit burner. My Colwood Super Pro II has two handpieces (or units?) on it -- a regular and a heavy duty, each with it's own heat setting dial. But, for what I do, I think that may be over kill. I rarely use the heavy duty.

You just can't beat Colwood for customer service and help. They really go out of their way to please.

WOW!!! Have you written any books on Santa Carving? If so, where can I buy one? I'm working on my third Santa. When he's finished I'll have completed two from Tom Wolfe's book, and one 'Harley Clause' I found in WCI. I bookmarked your site... I'll be going back there for inspiration. Your beards are great!

You mean, after 1000, I might have a chance of being as good as you? No, I doubt it....there's an intrinsic talent lying within those santas of yours - something one has or hasn't. Your skill for detail...and those beards, those awesome beards.....is remarkable, Nancy.
