Default Santas Staff

Santa left his Santa Staff by someones fireplace a couple of years ago and asked me to do another one for him. I will probably give it to him on Sunday. I will see if he will let me take a picture of him with it.

I made his staff from a piece of the paulownia as it is a strong but light wood.
There was a bullet hole thru this piece and I used the hole for the hand strap. I dug the bullet out but left a fragment of another one in the wood. I put a polished 1 1/4" copper pipe coupling at the bottom, then used an 1" holesaw and bored up into the bottom of the staff and left the plug in. I then put a cane tip over the plug. Finished with a deep mahogony stain the gave it to Anna to paint. She did holly and ribbons around the cane. She gave me a bell made from antique pressed metal and we tied it to the hand hold.

Great job Goody, is that a ornament or a jingle bell hanging on the leather strap?

Its a Jingle bell made from cieling tins. But I found my cast brass bells and I think I am going to put them on instead.

Outstanding Harold and Anna's paint is outstanding also. I was admiring the staff when my little bride came in and set down to take a look. She said the paint job was excellent. Oh she like the staff also.
