Once again, the Woodcraft shop in Bettendorf has basswood wood spools. Some of the old sewing ones get really hard. I put a jingle bell on the bottom and a wood star on the top, so many things would work and turn out cute. You did a great job on your spools.

Thanks for all the comments. I normally leave them natural rather than painting them. I prefer using old sewing spools rather than basswood. If I can I leave the lables on the top and/or bottom. I also use old buttons on the top and bottom to run the pipe cleaner through.

Once again, thanks for all the comments. I normally use a carving knife, a quarter inch very slightly curved gouge, and sometimes a v-tool. My slight experience with basswood spools is that the wood is not very good quality. I actually like the hard wood of the old spools much better,
