Default Santa's Workshop

The dining room table; my carving bench with 21 Christmas giveaways.
Let's see; four go to the dentist office, five for coworkers, one for the mailman,
hmmmmmm you know.... I should be making a list and checking it twice.

That's quite a collection ya got going there! As usual, neat and sharp cuts. Your going to have to tell me how you do that someday. How about showing us one of the finished products when you get done?

Yes Virginia, (Bob) there is a cigar box.

It's the way I have to do my christmas carvings; I don't have time to make individual ornaments. So I carve them all the same and paint them different.
That has been my M-O over the last four years.

I liked the textured beard so much that I may do all the beards the same.
The texturing also covers a lot of fast/rough carving which also saves time.

The 21 cutouts came from a single 4x4x12" block that was not good enough to sell, but works just fine for ornaments.

I have added this free patten to my website:

Neat Santa. Guess I need to try one or two. Hmmm, got a piece of tupelo 1/2" x 6" x 24 ". Never try\ied anything in tupelp/ Guess this would be a good one to start. Have a couple of my own Santas that I will post pictures of later.

Thanks for sharing and they all are great.

That's a great idea about carving the same and painting differently. I really liked the look of the beard on the finished one, how did you do that?

I carved the ornament as if I were going to paint it; and then
coated the beard with "Course Pumice Gel" made by Golden Paints.

Once that has dried, I paint it with white (cool white by "Americana") acrylic.

Rick - Your carvings continue to inspire me. Thanks for the pattern. Might give one a try while watching the Hawks this Sunday. Merry Christmas to you and the wife.
