Here is a progression from beginning to end, of a recent piece. It's a "candle stick" figure....no real planning. Just pick the wood, and make up the details as you go along. It was fun and that's all that matters.

Wow Susieq! Great progression photos of your carving and the detail is unbelieveable...You Santas are all fantastic and you outdid yourself on this one... How do you carve the detail on his cape border and carapiece? It looks like it's real fur rather than carved wood...very nice detail indeed! Again, thanks for sharing this wonderful carving with us...keep them coming they really give we newbies something to strive for! Kenn

Hi Bob, Kenn, You guys are up late...LOL. I didn't expect anyone to see this until tomorrow... Thank you both. This little guy wasn't really anything elaborate...just a simple stick figure. He is only about 8 inches tall. The fur texture is just something I picked up as a beginner years ago. I've tried other textures and am not against doing something new but I haven't found anything else that works for me yet. I keep trying though. Change is good...sometimes. If you want to study a really well done fur texture though, check out some of Deborah Call's Santa's. Her fur texturing is awesome.. I love it. Thanks again for your comments. |
