Susie, that is sooo clever! What little boy or girl wouldn't be thrilled to find one of these under the tree on Christmas morning?

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Charlotte...

Hi Al, thank you for your comments too. Today was a bust as far as carving goes. Some landscaping and house work got in my way. The landscaping has been sitting and waiting for an overcast day like today, so as to escape the brutal heat of a normal sunny Florida day. Probably won't get in my shop again until Thursday now. sigh.

Thanks farmall,
he will be painted in my usual style of painting, acrylic with an antique finish.

I have finished carving this piece and he is sitting on the shelf right now while I finish one or two more things. Then they will get painted all at once.
Thanks again.

Hey Susie, a fantastic carving once again! I haven't had enough time to check out to many threads. I'm so glad to have found this because I adore the jack in the boxes you create! Can't wait to see him finished!

Thank you Sharon,
I should start painting him soon.... Guess I should post a pic of him in the box before painting too. I also finished up an ornament that is waiting for paint. The grandkids are going to be here all next week, which will keep me out of my shop and in the house where I can keep an eye on them. I plan on breaking out the paints then.....
Will try to get a photo of him before he is painted and post it in the next day or so.
Thanks again

Hi Susie,

I've been reading a lot of posts on micro carvers thinking I might get one. It's very apparent to me that you've mastered their use. I love the texturing you achieve on his hair and the way you did the fur. Very nice work. I am looking forward to it painted. You do so well on that, too.

Thank you Ron.
You are right about a micro motor. I love mine. I used to do all of that detail with gouges and knives.... I got sucked into power carving gradually.

Our local club had Frank Russell in as a guest speaker for one or two meetings. I had seen my teacher use a Foredom flexshaft unit to rough out his carvings and I started with a little Dremel flexshaft unit. I started doing a bit more than roughing, a little detailing...Santa brought me a Foredom Flexshaft that year....worked with the Dremel and the Foredom for a couple years, then broke down and bought a micro motor.....

I do still carve with gouges a bit. But now that I have arthritis in the hands, I am so glad I learned to use power.

Thanks again for your comments.

I love the classical way you do your carving....the mixture of a Victorian St. Nicholas, with that German Belsnickle attitude.....combined with a folk and modern 2010 texture...it is amazing!
