Default Santa with bell

Here's a little 10" Santa we just finished. Carved from Basswood and painted with oils. Carved with power only.

Very nice job and especially if using power only. I'm still in the "must touch it up" stage when I'm power carving so I'm impressed!

Nice job, Doug! I've never carved anything with only power, just use it roughing out and touching up. How long did he take to do? Thanks for sharing! Deborah

I don't really know how long it took as I never keep time but I'll guess about 3 or 4 hours.

Doug,
Nice Santa, What type of cutters do you use to do your beards. I always used an inverted cone for the beard lines.
Nice little town Paducah is! Rode my motorcycle from Baltimore to there and back a few years ago. Stayed at the big convention center down on the river. My room overlooked the River and I could watch the Tugs moving the barges up and down the river. If I get back there well have to make a few chips together. Freindly town. I blew a radiator hose on the way down pulled into a station and the guys lent me tools, gave me all I needed to fix the bike. They wouldn't take anything. I handed the Owner $20 and said at least let me buy you guys lunch. He Said you must have more money than brains and wouldn't take it. I stopped at a pizza place up the road and worked out a deal to supply lunch to that shop for a month.
Thanks for posting you jogged my memory back to a enjoyable trip for a few minutes.

Goody

Goody--You are right, Paducah is an awfully nice town. We have a motorcycle jamboree every year so if you come back be sure and let me know in advance so I can halfway clean the shop in order that we can walk thru it.
As to carving the beards, I'll send you my tutorial "Power Carving for Beginners" if you want. It will explain it better than I can here. Just send me a private msg. with your e-mail address.
You have a standing invitation.
