Ummm, just out of curiosity, why does your YouTube video have a banner that reads "ALWAYS WERE A CARVERS GLOVE AND A THUMB GUARD", but your videos show that you don't wear either?

Claude

I think that many carvers that have been carving for sometime and before they had them available can't get used to carving with one. Tom Wolfe can't get used to a glove but always says, start wearing one from the get go. We have carvers at the club that don't wear a glove for the same reason, but they all say, save yourself some cuts and wear one. P.J. Driscoll doesn't wear a glove and told me he catches hell for it all the time but strongly urges carvers to wear one. It's somewhat of a disclaimer Claude but it's good advise I think.

Thumbs up Re: santa and bear on youtube

Thanks so much for your videos Arleen .. You have become such a wonderful asset to carvers everywhere ....

I too show using a carving glove in my videos ... but in regular carving .. I dont use one ..

in her videos Claude .. she explains the choice to use one .. but like me .. with beginners .. you encourage the use of a carving glove .. especially for beginners ..

Thanks Arleen for your work

Gene

hi there folks, lol i know some woodcarvers have a fit that i dont wear a glove, sorry i dont wear one, but i choose not to, i put that warning on the top of each video so that beginners are advised, i have carved the last 28 years without one, and if i were a beginner today, i would put one one cause i know what it was like to cut myself, i only knick myself once in all the videos i have done the last 3months, and that was not when i was teaching, it was off line it was so minor; its a disclaimer that i will put on the beginners series only, i also have a video about choices we make about safety gloves, please watch it if you havent seen it claude, it will tell you the choice is up to you weather you wear one or not, but your responsible once you pick up that knife how you handle it, thanks for all the support that i have recieved, i still advise beginners to wear one, its like anything else in life it a choice, happy and safe carving, arleen
