Default It's Beginning to Look Alot Like....

Ack!!!!! December 2 already???

This carving business....it's fun, right? HUH? Isn't IT???!! Found my diary entry from this time last year -....'be sure to plan ahead next year'. Did I? DID I??? :-[ NO. Huh uh. Of course not. I have 18 (count'em, 18!) more guys to finish, just to get the orders promised by Christmas done - and then there's family stuff to finish! Egads! LOL...there'll probably be alot of overnight boxes being shipped this year.

<pulling hair out - scribbling note to self>....'be sure to plan ahead next year'......

: Yeah, right.

How behind are you??? <misery loves company>

Teri

Teri, I know what you mean!! I got a couple of the commissioned pieces out of the way and am busy gluing pine needles on a pine branch right now for my daughter's chickadee present...talk about crazy!! I was hoping to be further along now than I am! I'm actually thinking about wrapping up 'almost done' carvings, giving them for Christmas then taking them back and finishing them!
I'm beginning to think my idea of carving for sale ten months of the year and keeping November and December just for family carving and 'keeping the season' what it's supposed to be is just how to go. Things could get really hectic if I don't and I love Christmas way too much to let that happen! Plus when the heck am I going to get this house cleaned and decorated, Christmas cards out, baking done....feed all these hunters. Okay, I've got to get off here and get to work!! Callynne

Hi Teri; well, thats just how it goes doesn't it! I gave into the fact years ago...that we just never catch up as Santa Carvers. I came to the conclusion...that the more you make...the more you sell. Last year in May, I had over 100 Santas ready to go...then the summer season started...and BAM!, they were all gone in 3 weeks and I was behind again! In Nov this year, I did over 70 Santas...and I'm still behind. I figure by the end of this year...I'll be around 650 for the year, and I don't have ONE for myself, but...thats not a bad thing is it. We COULD be sitting here praying for orders to come in. As Santa Artists we had better be busy at this time of year or we are in big trouble, or we should be looking for another line of business. I hope you all do have a wonderful Christmas Season though...busy, but wonderful. And Teri...we have to get to that trade right after Christmas, I haven't forgotten you either. Talk soon, Dave

Oh, Callynne, Colin...you couldn't be more 'right' in your thinking. But trying to earn a living precludes me from blowing it off during November and December...much as I'd like to. Hmmm...no, I guess I still wouldn't...I just love carving too much. And, obviously, complaining :-)
