Nice. How was the pear wood for carving?

Mike, the wood is a basswood pear blank from Smokey Mountain Woodcarving. They sell hen egg, goose egg, pear and a few more blanks all out of basswood. The blanks give you some interesting shapes to start with and save you the time to get your wood into the round.

Retry and MelNM, thanks for your kind your kind words.

Coffeeman: I have been trying very hard to improve on the clean lines, although I have a long way to go. I am also trying to improve on the painting. The one part I am unsatisfied with as of yet, is the painting of the hair. I need to do more reading on coloring and shading for that.

Nice little piece, George! I like the fine details you put into the face, brows, belt, etc. The straight forward painting on your Santa seems to work just fine, also.

Excellent Santa.
I am impressed by all of the variations on Santa that are simply "Santa". He is what he is, and this version is completely believable like so many others.
The details and paint are perfect for him. Great job using the pear shape.

Great Santa! Excellent details! That is the next project that I intend to try and tackle! I agree with you, the painting is really the toughest part!

Great job!!!!!!
