| | Ornaments received by Tidewalker I just received a great carving of a Christmas tree painted green with white snow along the boughs from K. Sanders.
I also received a great little santa clause head carved from what looks like a basswood egg, very cheery looking fellow from vacaricature carver.
Also A santa clause head bottle stopper shaped little guy . Kinda Looks like he is looking back and forth to see if any children are comming. He is from Wood Whittler ( Bart ).
Thanks So Much to each and every one of you, They are all beautiful and will be cherrished in my family for years to come. You really don't know what this means to us. I will be late getting mine out as I have been very busy at thye hospital for the past few months with my son and I. I hope this is OK with everyone.
Again, Thanks so much,
Darren

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker I just received another one today from Mottles. It is a wonderful Hopie Doll Ornament with lots of bright colors. Black , Green , dark mustard, white , and red. He has red ears sticking out the sides of his head and a little red nose in the shape of a tube. I hope that explains it enough Ron.
Thank you very Much Mottles. We all love it!

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker Hi Darren, I'm so pleased you liked the little cradle doll. One little explaination the little red tube is actually called a 'speaking tube or hole' is actually a mouth. I don't know much about the why! LOL

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker Darren,
how is the finish applied on the tree orniment. this has bugged me for several days i have seen this finish before ...
looks like it was painted white then the second darker color and scraped down while wet to make the white come out.
or a dry wipe?? Quote: |

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker I Recieved a great little Santa from Thomas:
A serious little guy with a very tall red hat , almost in the shape of half a banana lol , and a small white pompom on top. He is carved in the scandinavian style. Hope that is enough info for you Ron.
Thank you so much Thomas,
Darren
I will check out the finish this afternoon when I return from the hospital and let you know. Also let me know when you recieve the blade I sent Thomas.
Thanks again,
Darren |

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker Thomp, I can answer that for him as I was the one who carved it. Base coat of a mixture of Hunter Green and Forest Green. White dry broushed on cut edges to give a snow like effect to the borrows. Trunk is base coat of black with drak brown dry brushed over that. 2 coats of deft Semi Gloss.
Hope that HELPED.

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker kenny sorry if it seamed i was trying to poke my nose in, but the effect is nice on whiskers and snowy limbs on trees.. just couldnt figger out how it was done ... i think i want to try it as its better looking than big globs of white pretending its snow...
all the orniments are great so far, just love to look at other folks ideas and what they do with same patterns.. its inspiring to us old folks, or us folks that feel 92 today....

| | Re: Ornaments received by Tidewalker Thomp, No poking nose in to anything, You has a question, that is all. You could do it the way you thought. But the dry brushing is a little easier to me. Now by dry brushing, I take the brush, dip it in to the paint and brush back and forth on a pieve of plastic and then wipe the brush end off on to a rag to get as much paint off of the brush as possible. I know, It sounds crazy, putting paint on then wipping the brush off. Then I just lightly brush over the object. It take time and practice and I am still practiceing this technique but a nice effect for sure.. now you can do it two ways, well, I do it two different ways. One is let the bas coat dry and dry brush or a fetr base coat is dry, I sray or brush on(which ever I have on hand at the time) Deft clear semi gloss, let it dry then dry brush the white, let it dry then another coat of Deft clear semi Gloss.
If the dry brush does not work out the first time, Paint back over it with your base coat and try again. May want to paint a scrap piece with the base coat, then dry brush it to see how you do it.
Best wishes on this technique. Try it, Me thinks you would like it. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
