I know that we have a few police officers (past and present) on this board and even though you guys get teased about donuts, i don't think you guys get payed enough.

Colin, I got the bark carving when I got home last night. Just as I thought, it was well worth the wait, I love it. I found a spot for it on the wall beside my lazy boy, where I do most of my carving.

My 5 year old son asked me if he could open it, so he tore open the envelope, looked in, and said 'I think it's a rock'. LOL, I took it out and showed him and he thought it was really neat. He loves this ornament swap.

Anyway, thanks again. It makes me want to do a bark carving. BTW, what kind of wood is it?

Chris

Hi_Ho,

You had mentioned something earlier about maybe doing a cane segment swap. Maybe we should go ahead with that. The ornament swap doesn't seem to be attracting anyone other than our little group of 6 or so.

If we put it on the General Carving section, maybe we'll get more takers. Maybe we could just make it similar to the ornament swap, except with cane segments.

I'm just having so much fun with this swap, I know others would love it too. Maybe the word 'ornament' is intimidating people who don't normally carve them ???

Chris.

It could be Chris...but the ornament swap is probably the easiest and most versatile in size and choices of subject...the cane swap is a lot of fun but is more involved..not only in the carving part, but the preparation of the block as far as size and getting the 5/8 hole in the center..some carvers may not have a drill press.....not against the idea mind you, just pointing out it may restrict some....with that said however, I suppose it could interest others! ???

Now that Christmas is out of the way we can start swapping ornaments again, so the post officeses will have time to get them to their destination in 'jig time.' I found myself up to my ears getting stuff out that I had promised. But if you (any of You) want to start swapping , just say so. I need the practice. We'd have 11 months to do it. I am real proud of the 6 or 7 I have received and would go for more. You want'a do it just say so. charlie....... : :-[ :-/

Since there doesn't seem to be many on here willing to swap, those of you that do and enjoy it...I have mentioned this before but it is great...go to W3E woodcarvers exchange, and sign up for the round robin cane segment swap, or the friendship cane swap or a miriade of other swaps going including pins etc....I carved my part of the round robin segment and sent it off awhile back and just received the first one to carve..4 all together,, the exchange will explain it to you....its fun! They also have secret pal exchanges and ornaments I think...anyway look it up! You have to sign on to one of the forums to be able to get in, sign up for the 'Porch', good bunch of people there too and many are on here! just a thought, I know several of you would like to keep the swaps going......dave

the ornament or cane segment swap sounds to be a very interesting idea.i read several post late last year but felt the time frame was to short to get something done.also i suppose let every one i tend to under rate my efforts and feel that they are not good enough.
so in the next little while i hope to set up a picture trail acct. and show some of my work and any one that would be interested i would be glad to do something to trade.

James, it really doesn't matter at what stage in your 'carving' career you are, people that sign up for the W3E Exchange are at all levels and that is part of the fun, you get to see all levels of carving experience, and you know, I think I could learn something from everyone on there, even if its 'how did you do that?' LOL
