i have been busy carving a bunch of ornaments, but was commenting to a fellow carver that i do not like the looks of the screw in eyes that i use for hangers, they just seem to big and bulky and distract from the carving. she said her brother carves ornaments, and uses fish hooks for the hangers. you just take a fish hook, cut off the hook end, and then press the straight part into the top of the ornament. it works and looks awesome!!! just thought i would pass along a good idea...Talking

For really small ornaments... Take a piece of brass wire, wrap it around a awl or something and then twist the ends to make a quarter inch or smaller tail. Clip off extra. Then drill a hole or just use a push pin add a dot of superglue and insert. Looks like a miniature eye screw.

Check at your local hobby shop. I was able to find some shiny small eye screws that work good for hangers. I actually found them in 3 different sizes at Hobby Lobby. They are a silver color though, wish someone made them in a gold color.

I use some very small brass ones you can buy them from woodturning suppliers and they are used for ornements turned on the lathe. Like the idea of the fish hooks have got plenty of those around here. GoodLuckHaveFun CarveSafeEveryone

Yes, there are some very tiny ones available..... I use some that I buy from Michael's art and craft shops in the jewelry section. They come in silver tone or gold tone. I think they are 10 to a package....they were about .99 the last time I bought some. Also, Michael's will usually have a 40% off coupon in the Sunday paper.

What I'm looking for are the wire hangers used to hold ornaments up for display. I tried making my own and they just don't work well. I've tried our Hobby Lobby and other local stores (small town here) to no avail. I'd like them to look good, and possibly sold with the ornament. What do I look for on line? What are they called? Does anyone know a source? ![]() Joggernot

Thanx for sharing! I usually just use small wire twisted up and shoved in with epoxy The other cool thing in my husbands tackle box are his swivels? Makes for an awesome ornament on the tree

I use the very small screw eyes but have sometimes just put a very small hole in the top of the carving, and put the ends of some fishing line in with a drop of glue...I now use the fishing line on all my hangers.
