| | Old fashion Father Christmas I'm on the lookout for a photo or website that displays an old fashion Father Christmas. I'm expecially interested in doing a long whispy style of beard so the pic may even come from a wizzard or old man. I have not received my latest addition of carving illustrated so perhaps there are pics displayed as there are usually carvings of traditional santas enclosed.

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas Old fashion ?
As in pre- night before Christmas , when Santa was shown as a toy maker in a shirt , and knickers?
Or the orginial style Santa that looked like a Cardinal of the church ? (Goody Style) You can do a history of Santa search and get some information.
Hope this help Pat. |

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas Tony - I had previously tried the google search under images and didn't come up with what I am looking for but thanks for the suggestion.
Ash - Is difficult to explain but the picture or carving I'm looking for is not a "jolly old fellow". He's probably closer to your idea of one who looks like a cadinal.
Goody - It never occurred to me to have a look in Ebay. I never go to that site but your picture you attached is darn close to what I'm looking for...the beard would be less fluffy and more wavy.
Thanks for your assistance everyone.

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas Patrick,
Then modify your search to St. Nicholas .
Santa Claus,
is an american modifaction of St. Nick. In 1822 the Night before Christmas was published , which modified the look of Santa Claus.
He was again modified in looks when Coke presented him.
The Europe St. Nick is more of what your looking for this is more representive of the look your looking for. I am not sure you will find a pic of one with the beard your looking for , but were carvers , be creative . =)

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas Thanks Ash and Hi Ho. By redefining my search on the google images, I was able to come up with pics for the style of carving I am considering.

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas Patrick,
Our club did a series of four old time Belsnickle-type Santas in relief (9 x 12") a few years ago. When I get a minute this weekend, I'll look to see if I can find the patterns we used. One had a rocking horse with it, one had a lantern and bag of toys, don't remember the rest. I think we got the idea from a tapestry that I bought to make throw pillows for the holidays.
I'll let you know if I can find them. But you might try the Belsnickles search when doing a google search.

| | Re: Old fashion Father Christmas I finally found them, Patrick!! If you will pm your mailing address to me, I'll photocopy them and get them in the mail to you--sorry, but I don't have a scanner or I'd email them to you. Sorry to take so long in finding them.
