| | New Santa Carvings Here is a santa in the round and a santa ornament that I have finished. Still unsatisfied with the paint job w/BLO so I am going to have to do a little more research. Hope you like them!

| | Re: New Santa Carvings Nice looking Santas, Blake. I like the paint that way - thin washes and let the wood grain show through.

| | Re: New Santa Carvings The blue eyes really stand out nicely on those Santa's and I agree, that I also love the thin paint job letting some of the wood show through.
I might add that we only have about 300 shopping (carving) day's left 'till Christmas! Carve on!! |

| | Re: New Santa Carvings I think it is the yellowish areas that were left after I diped it in the BLO. You can see it best on the close up pic of the santa in the round on his mustache and around the eyes. Any ideas as to what has caused this??

| | Re: New Santa Carvings Blake, it almost looks like that there wasn't any paint in those areas. You can go back and paint over them.
It is hard to tell from the pics. |

| | Re: New Santa Carvings Blake,
The carvings look great!!!
Did you add anything to your BLO?
Most of us add some Burnt Sienna or Burnt Umber OIL paint to a small amount of paint thinner to help mix the paint, then add to our BLO. If you've added something to your BLO just make sure its mixed well...
...not too sure what the problem is, it almost looks like it rejected the paint...no fillers in the wood right?
Either way this just takes time, I'm not sure I have enough tint in my BLO to give it the look I want, just something to keep playing with... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
