Hey Nancy, great to see your new Santa, it really is terrific! I have tried 'finding' your site a couple times since I talked to you a while back and you were so helpful in advising me about tool selection. This time I added it to my favorites list...twice! Hopefully that will keep me from losing it, still need lots of computer help!! Just don't like to take the time away from carving!
Thanks for the information about selling carvings, I have a list of people who want to buy once I start selling and I only have a rough idea what to sell for. No ways near what you can sell for, maybe knocking off a zero on the end will be closer!!! I've only been at it for twenty months though, so hopefully in ten years I'll be able to bring in a little more....once I get my wheelchair or walker over to my carving table and limber up my arthritic hands!!!
When I started carving my intention was to carve mainly Christmas pieces...I love Santas, especially old fashioned ones. I really didn't expect it to be anything more than a hobby and I'd make myself a few neat things for decoration. Turned out to be a lot more like an obsession than a hobby!
If you'd like to check out my pictures they are at http://photo.epson.com/ in the Visit Albums box type callsr@csonline.net the password is Callynne and the album name is My Woodcarvings. I would really love to hear what you think...even if there isn't a Santa in the bunch! Thanks, Callynne

Callynne - when you first posted the URL for your photos I tried unsuccessfully to see them -- just couldn't get into the site. Today I managed to get in. Wow. You're doing some fine work. The dolls are amazing. You SEW too . My personal favorite is the deer head. How big is that? The antlers are really nice. You go, girl !!!

Thanks for the kinds words Nancy. The deer head is about nine inches tall. I read that it is a good idea to coat the antlers with super glue, to make them stronger. I did that but then they didn't look right painted. I sanded some of the paint off and they looked perfect. My husband is an avid hunter and outdoorsman so I can get really good advice on what I'm doing, right or wrong, with my animal carvings.
Hopefully this will post this time, I have tried repeatedly to post and keep getting my response refused, says the user name I am trying to register already exists. Very frustrating!! I anyone knows why that's happening and how to solve the problem, please let me know! Thanks, Callynne

I couldn't agree more, Nancy. Â* Â* I've just begun to sell my work again after several years away from it....and I can't believe how well it's taking off this time. Â* Â* Â*I was with Folkworks when they first got started 10 years ago and have just finalized arrangements to work with them again starting with their upcoming Santa show. Â* Â*

Another great gallery that I am working with is Reasons to Believe in Kirkland, WA. Â* Â*They specialize in only Santas (the owners are also artists) and have a big web presence as well as their shop. Â* Â*They're wonderful folks to work with, for anyone interested. Â* They're at www.reasonstobelieve.com.

I love carving - I love selling my carvings. I love having a fine gallery 'pushing' my stuff and doing all the paper work. Â*I stay home, carve and get a check every month.

If any carver reading this wants more information on the gallery - it's FolkWorks http://www.folkworks.com . Â*Or write to me. Nancy Goff - Â*jngoff@fidnet.com

Geez! Â*After looking at Nancy's and Calynne's web pages, I realize how far I have to go as a beginner! Â*It's definately an inspiration though...I always find myself being amazed at what 'can' be done with carving. Â*My first carving was a Santa and he ended up pretty 'blocky'...you know, the kind only a Mother can love as a present? Â* Â*Now I know what can really be done, I'm fired up to try another.

Thanx for the looks! Â*Your stuff is great...both of you!

- Brian

Thanks Brian -- Everybody was a beginner sometime and all of us are beginners at somethings all the time. Practice, practice, practice ... it's always fun and it's always rewarding.
