| | Re: New Santa Awwww, Kenny,
He's a cute little feller. I'm so glad that you went to the Bishops for a workshop. It's unbelievable what a difference a few hours with a pro can do for a carver. You learn so many little things that can make such a difference in your carvings.
Hope Billie's knee is getting better and that you'll have a good trip to Texas. Thanks for sharing your carving with us.

| | Re: New Santa Kenny, nice carving, I met the Bishop's in Davenport this year, great people.
The color placement looks good, but from the photos they appear too washed out. Add some satin lacquer, let it dry real good, then some dark brown satin wax to bring out all that great detail you got carved in. After the wax dries, about an hour , buff with a soft cotton cloth. |

| | Re: New Santa Thanks all for the kind comments. I did learn a lot in 3 short days but found out that I can carve 8 hours a day. I have never done that and the Bishops make it a nice enviornment also.
Mark, Thank you for your suggestions and I did dip it in to BLO and the colors popped out. Yes, I used washes and the wife took a picture before it was finished but then she was excited about the little Santa. I am waiting for it to dry more before I finalize the finish on it. Torn between a satin finish or just wax it.
Will post a picture when it is finished.
Yes Mel, it is Her's and she told the Grandchildren, Daughter, Son to keep their mits off.
She liked it.
Now I did buy another roughout( of no, The bad Old rough outs) and am waiting for the new WCI to come out and try Vicki's wood Bleaching tecknique .
SOunds interesting.
Again, thanks all. |

| | Re: New Santa Ken I have used a variation of Marks finish, I mixed half dark and half clear liquid wax together so it wouldn't be so dark, but thats a matter of style, I liked the results. You might want to experiment with it on a couple of carvings to see if you like it,Woodcraft is the only place I have found that sells it here though.
