Nativity scene.

Hi guys...was wondering if anyone has suggestions on where I could find relatively simple patterns for a nativity scene. Any help would be appreciated...Reg.

Hello Bandaid,
I think it is Helen Gibson that has 'Carving the Nativity' book and I believe Fox Chapel has it. It has patterns for several animals.

I've always thought it would be an awesome heirloom to have your own hand-carved nativity set. Let us know when you get it started....and finished!

Hey Bandaid, Donna T is right it is Helen Gibson in fact she has 2 nativity books one on the people and one on the animals. Good books. Hey Donna you might like this idea, for the past four years I have been carving my wife a nativity set. The first year she got Mary, Joeseph and the baby Jesus in a manger. Each year I add another peice or two. I carved it out of black walnut without a lot of detail. She looks forward to a new addition each year. have fun, carve oldbearx2

Last year during the holidays, I saw a bunch of toy farm animals at Tractor Supply. They went with the model farm tractors that folks collect. They had 2 or 3 sizes, and several animals that would appear in a nativity. They had a lot of detail and would make a nice part of a display as they are. I saw them as models for carved pieces. Some would also look good in a Noah's Ark display.

Hey Old Bear,
I've thought of that. Long ago, in another life, I made ceramic nativity sets for my daughters and my mother and I've thought about carving a set. That may have to wait for retirement.

Although, for my youngest grandkids' who have bedrooms decorated in Noah's Ark, I've been carving two different versions of the same animal for them each Christmas. I make sturdy versions and they actually play with them at times. This year, bears; last year was skunks, the year before was rabbits, first year was giraffes.
