Default My "Gargac" Ornament

Well fellow carvers here is my version of the "Gargac" style ornament. Really enjoyed carving it from the triangle piece of wood, my choice was 2.5" X 5" X 1.5" and happen to use Spalted Basswood, don't recommend spalted on small pieces, had a real rough time in the beard area, soft wood and it didn't hold up to my cuts very well, because of the spalting. Anyway, a lesson learned. I tweaked my version with additional cutout areas other than the beard, placed one in the left eye socket and right side top of hat fold, thought they gave the whole piece a little more balance.

Enjoyed your style Mark, and really feel I have added another technique to my carving ability, going to apply the cutout "style" to one of my cottonwood wood spirits beards on the next one I carve. Thanks for your guidence & input towards my training to carve better. Bill

Very nice ornament. The detail makes it. It reminds me of the sayin "rode hard and put up wet". Tom H
