| | My 1st (maybe only) snowman Not really into Xmas ornament carving - much to my wife's despair, but finally allowed myself to be bullied (by her) into at least trying one.
Had a scrap of alder about 2" wide and maybe 4.5" tall. Gave it a quick spin on the lathe, then used a bent-tip knife to snip small slices off all 'round to give it the hand-tooled look, slapped a quick paint job on. Now I'm trying to find something for a mini-sprig of mistletoe to glue on the side of the hat.
Comments, criticism and good-humoured snickers welcome. |

| | Re: My 1st (maybe only) snowman Whitecree,
I like it. The hat is well done, the cuts are clean, the nose looks like a carrot ..
I think you could do a bit more , but for a carving that you didn't really want to do not bad. But I have to say I agree with the others , it shows you rushed , and did not have your heart in doing it.

| | Re: My 1st (maybe only) snowman Whitecree: It looks good! Now try a nice easy one like this - use a handy chunk of 1.5 x 1.5 by 5 inch basswood and a knife. The arms are twigs from the tree out in front. http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...00/ppuser/3705

| | Re: My 1st (maybe only) snowman Well Whitcree as you have probably learned ask for comments and critisism on this board you will get it. That is why I always ask for them but I listen to what they tell me and maybe I cant change the carving I have shown you can bet I will take that advice to the next project. I have to agree also we have seen a lot of what you have done and this is a little folk art for me. Would probably sell well at a craft show but had you carved the eyes and the teeth mouth and set the teeth back a bit, it would have been an awsome carving. Not finding fault JMHO.
