Claude-- The reason that some are dark is that when boiling them the bark came off real quick and they got discolored by the dirty water. Also sometimes when you take a knee out and try to strip it and only part of the bark comes off and you put it back to boil longer the part you stripped will turn dark. Doesn't hurt a thing as they are all going to be painted anyway. It will mean that the face will have to be painted a flesh color as opposed to leaving the wood showing which we prefer.
