| | Miniature Flat Plane Santa Line-up Here is a line-up of the Santas I have carved following Gene's Tutorial.
They were carved in order from left to right, and I made each on a little different.
Still getting the hang of painting, but finding it easier now I am using liquid acrylics rather than tubes.

| | Re: Miniature Flat Plane Santa Line-up Thanks Tom, I had great fun making them.
After a bumpy start, I now enjoy painting as well - this I found more difficult than then carving part.
I was using tubes of acrylic, which are tricky to water down and mix evenly. I eventually worked out that if I decant the first mix, the result is smoother.
Since I discovered liquid paint which can be measured in droppers, I have found it easier to get an even finish.
I only have 6 basic colours, which I am learning to mix to get the shade I need. As you can see from number 5 in the line-up, I went a little heavy on the magenta to start with, and I am still learning how to mix a skin tone without using white.
I was going to give most of them away..but, number 1 has to stay, no 2 is for a bald friend of mine, nos 3 and 4 are my son and daughter's picks, no 5 may go to my sister, and nos 6 and 7 have also been given to my children.
Thanks for the nice comments. |

I like yours...actually it is more like what I was trying to achieve . I bet it looks great painted.
One thing - I mostly used a 1" square block, rather than the size that Gene used, which might be worth trying for a slimmer look. Santa no. 4 was the only one made from a wider block, as you can see from his stomach, but it didn't really have that 'fat and jolly' look that yours has.

I did actually make a 'line-up' wall out of white paper with 1" lines drawn across, but the photo didn't come out very well.
