| | M. Gargac's Santa: My Version Really enjoyed Mark's "Old World Santa Ornament" artical and have four ornaments in progress. Finally painted up two of them last night. We have several Xmas dinner gatherings coming up, so Marks artical inspired me to carve some up as I plan on giving one to each dinner host as a thank you gift from my heart.
The second one has a multi-tosseled hat, just for something different,
comments always appreciated. Bill |

| | Re: M. Gargac's Santa: My Version Bill, beautiful carving on those ornaments! Thanks for trying the Santa ornament carving. Looking forward to seeing more of your carvings. Really like the finish, Is that an oil paint, or acrylic finish on those?

| | Re: M. Gargac's Santa: My Version Thanks Mark, first of all they we're fun to carve, really enjoyed the feel of the size of the ornament as I was carving them, then after carving out the wood from the back, it brings out a whole new feeling of the ornament itself, kinda like a "mask" ornament.
My finish: I wash the whole piece with some liquid soap and warm water, then begin painting with acrylics, blow drying after each color, I never thin down with water, I use instead made by mini-wax, their water base stain, clear tint base, its a milky liquid base, to this I add my drops of color, and paint away. Then add 2-3 coats of Deft Satin spray finish.
Again, I thanks you for your inspirational article, love this new ornament carving style. Bill |

| | Re: M. Gargac's Santa: My Version Super job on BOTH of those Santas, Bill! Love the "jester"-type hat on ol' Santa in the 2nd one, but they are both wonderful....paint job is excellent and really brings them out. Bonnie |

| | Re: M. Gargac's Santa: My Version Way to go Bill, those are both excellent. I have a great idea, I'll get Colin to pick me up on the way thru, that way I'll save on gas (over a $1.00 a quart here), we can both get our bellies full and an ornament to boot. Sound good there old buddy?
