can you give some direction for painting an appy? ive painted sorrels and bays and a few greys-- with less than satisfactory results-- im carving a xmas pony-- think hed look good as an appy.

Chuck: Sorry for not getting back to your PM. I sent a reply but got it right back for some reason. As my wife had a black Appy with a white blanket I always painted that one. I first painted the horse white and then came back and overpainted with black to get the spots.

Bigboy's suggestion is a good one. I use those color guides quite a bit. Cant find a better reference source for horses.

bigboy -- thanks for the link i finally found the link for "Color Formulas and Techniques for Horse Modelers" i found the home site no problem-- that was easy

lynn-- it great to know that im on the right track-- thanks for responding. when adding spots-- do u flick the paint on? or how do you apply them?

No flicking. An Appy doesn't have that fine of spots. I paint he outer border area of the blanket then go in with black to paint the finer details. It might take a couple applications to get good coverage over the white. Experiment a little before taking the brush to the horse.
