| | Larger Leprechaun This one is a little bit larger than the last one but shows the Top Hat Santa change better.
But not as easy to carve with a Stanley No 199 utility knife.
As always, comments welcomed, good or bad. |

| | Re: Larger Leprechaun Thank you all. Definitely learning to use the "ol No 199". I still have to revert back to my other knives as sometimes I can't get in to a place with the 199. But, Not as bluky as I first thought. Watched Lynn at the carving show carving contest and he mad it look so easy. And I will admit, it is getting easier to use. This is the sixth small carving I have done totally with the 199 other than the beard textureing, and I am working on several other big ger pieces and use a combination of the 199 and my other reliable(Denny) knife.
Thinking on a cottonwood Bark carving next using "ol No 199".
One thing is for sure, a thoumb guard is needed with the 199. Well that was a stupid statment, A thumb guard needs to be worn no matter what you use. Well Duh?
Thanks again for your comments. |

| | Re: Larger Leprechaun Don't think I will get use to ol 99! I use it now and then for very rough cuts...if I break that blade, no loss.....but anything close to finish, I use my good knives....to each his own! |

| | Re: Larger Leprechaun Kenny, Real nice job on the Leprechaun. And as for the #199 - I too have several and do use them for roughing out. Well after the beating I have been taking for tryin to get rid of the "fuzzies", instead of not creating them, I tried a smaller Santa ornament with the #199. Guess what - cleaner cuts, less fuzzies. | | Re: Larger Leprechaun I know being self taught isn't any excuse for creating fuzzies as there are many self taught carvers on the board who have mastered the fuzzies, I have them and take great strides to eliminate them but, they are there. I admire those who can eliminate them each every time. I not one of them. But, try .
I really don't think you took a beating as everyone is trying to help you in achiving cleaner cuts. Some of mine are better than other. I just have to remember how I did the cleaner ones. That is a goal of mine, to be a better carver and cleaner cuts. |

| | Re: Larger Leprechaun Ken - your leprechaun is super nice ... your use of 199 is something else too and the lack of fuzzies is amazing.
I've been trying to change my name here to Fuzzy and it won't let me | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
