Default Japanese Yukinko (Snow Child)

I just completed this Christmas ornament for Theresa.

The last picture is a Snow child created by Master doll maker Kuribayasi Issetsu.

Fabulous Rick I like yours much better than the master doll makers. BTW how did you achieve the outer part of the carving?

Colin,
If you mean the shape, that was easy, I didn't do anything, it is the apple turning I use for carving pumpkins.

I have several poor quality turnings that I can't sell, so I use them to make projects myself. This is a good example; the turning was very rough and had several knots visible. So I carved the only good spot on the turning into the face.

The hard part was carving the face so smooth and round.

If you mean the texture, it is Course Pumice Gel by Golden Paints™

That's a sweet little carving Rick. I'm sure Theresa will love it. Well done.

I really like the exterior finish. I have been looking for some way to represent a short afro hair cut and if you worked with that stuff a little it looks like it would work well for that. How fast does the gel set?

It will hold it's position immediately, and harden to the touch in 8 hours.

Thanks for the comments eveyone.
It was satisfying to complete a carving, even a simple one.
