If you're artistically challenged, but still want to carve Santas, there's hope. Think of it as 'carving-by-numbers'. You can buy basswood turnings from Beaver Dam Decoys or another supplier, get Tina Toney's Santa carving book with the patterns for those turnings, and start carving. If you can get some help with the faces, it'll make a big difference. Given a little time and patience, you can duplicate the carvings in Toney's book. It's not art, it's not original, but if you just want to give a hand carved Santa to a family member, I'll bet they won't turn it down. I put some photos on the picture trail site, as examples. |
