Heartwarming Story for Woodcarvers Hey Everybody,
In case some of you have never heard of it, I highly recommend a Christmas book called, "The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey." It's supposed to be a children's book, but any adult I have lent my book to, loved it just as much as me. The art work is really good too. As woodcarvers, I think you might find this book particularly heartwarming.
It's supposed to be set I believe in the late 1800s/early 1900s. This is how the inside cover describes the story:
"The village children called him Mr. Gloomy. But, in fact, his name was Toomey. Mr. Jonathan Toomey. And though it's not kind to call people names, this one fit quite well. For Jonathan Toomey seldom smiled and never laughed."
"One day, in early winter, the widow McDowell comes to call on the woodcarver. Would Mr. Toomey be able to carve a new creche for her in time for Christmas? And would he allow her young son to watch while he carves it?"
ps As luck would have it, I came upon a DVD version in the library the other night and just watched it. It's a very heartwarming story the whole family can enjoy. And his carving is excellent by the way!! |
