| | Goose Egg Santa Here is one I thought was fun, I did it from a Goose egg basswood turning (darn things are addicting) It seems like the basswood is little softer than normal. I'm going to make him into an ornament. |

| | Re: Goose Egg Santa Hey Mel, he's a fun looking santa and will make a really cool ornament. I do have a question though how the heck do ya hang onto something that small while carving?

| | Re: Goose Egg Santa Mel, by 'goose egg' do you refer to the 'rough out' goose egg sold by some, or the general shape of the finished Santa...
He's great, by the way. I love his expression, and the hat detail is excellent. I'm working on my first carving of a Santa, and did not use a rough-out blank, but one I cut myself. (so far so good)
I hope mine turns out half as nice as yours!

| | Re: Goose Egg Santa Gee, here's a wild suggestion why not carve a goose egg out of square stock, good practice if you happen to be a newbie , learn how to handle the grain...and a heck of lot cheaper than ordering from a supplier.
Frankly I wouldn't buy an egg from a supplier(without seeing it in my hand first) if I just wanted to carve one or two, you can get bad eggs from anywhere including a hen or a goose.
That's other than Rick, he couldn't lay ..I mean sell a bad egg.
Didn't WCI have an article on carving an egg (and decorated) some time back?
Yep there it is:
Carole Jean Boyd?s step-by-step practice egg is an ideal first project

All kidding aside, carve the egg yourself then make a Santa head or what ever from it. .

| | Re: Goose Egg Santa Its a basswood goose egg, I purchased from Little Shavers,
Ricks place, there are other suppliers that have them also. I could have carved it myself, but being lazy and not wanting to do too much roughout work, I ordered it, the size of this egg is about 2 inches, I had a carving glove on when I carved it, because it was kind of small. The hat trim is something I did to hide a boo boo and it worked out OK. Thats why I like these eggs, because I can try differen ideas on them.
Kenny the bad part is the shell is too thick, so there is not much egg to fry. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
