| | The giant santa is finished Hi Gang,
I have finally finished the giant santa and posted a picture of him on picture trail follow this link http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...&members=1
I will have to tell you that it was so much fun to do I had a ball doing it I know it is not the best santa in the world and I learnt a whole lot doing this carving I am sure that me next one will be a lot better. The santa is carved out of a white pine log about 6ft tall and 2ft in diameter. I decided that he would decorate the front of my house this year so I finally decided to finish him with exterior latex I did it in a wash and will be doing maybe one more coat. Then I will seal it with a gloss poleurathane finish to preserve him.
I think I am hooked on carving santa's but cant seem to think that I should have started with something smaller. Let me know what you think for my first attempt I would welcome any comments from all you santa carvers I have a lot to learn and I really care what you think. So does this make me a santa carver or do I have to carve more? This is the first carving I have painted I think I need to thin down my washes a little more.

| | Re: The giant santa is finished Wow Colin, now that's a Santa!! What a great decoration! Better watch out, the Missus will be having you do Mrs. Claus and elves too!
Mitch, I don't know about Mrs. Claus with attitude...great carving though! Both pieces are very nicely done!
Ibrewalot, that's a very impressive piece. Nice Santas guys! And yes Colin, Santa carving can become quite the addiction! Callynne |

| | Re: The giant santa is finished Colin, that Santa is great! Wow, what an ornament for the front lawn. I love it.
Um, that ornament you're sending me in the exchange, it's smaller than that, right? Let me know if I need to start clearing out my living room : I suppose I could forget the tree and just put the gifts under Santa LOL
