| | First Attempt at Santas Here is my first attempt at Santa ornaments. As you can tell, I have only finished one. The second one is in the carving process, and the third one hasn't even had a knife put to it yet. These roughouts were purchased at the Woodcraft store. Once I get them carved I will attempt to paint them with an acrylic wash. I will post more as they are finished.

the santa looks good just keep going the more you do the the santas become your own, remember when painting thin washes except the white it needs to be mixed to look like milk. other than that they look great will loolk good hanging on the tree.

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas That's a great start Blake. Keep it up. Bring the width of the face in just a bit at the eyes to prevent the "straight line" look. We need pictures of the painted pieces too! |

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas Thanks Mitch and Bart! I appreciate the comments and suggestions! Since I have one that I haven't started, I will work on bringing in the sides of the face like you recommended. I may try to finish and paint them this weekend. It's kind of slow go at this point with having a 7 month old to keep up with!!
Thanks again!!

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas The carvings look great. I am sure the painting will also be well done.
As long as you are having fun, each carving you finish will be better than the previous one.
Keep up the good work.

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas I DO also like the depth of cuts that you have made with the eyes and the hair line y the temples. That is the area that I was suggesting more curvature. That deep cut in a straight line caught my eye. |

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas Looking good Blake, I may have to hire you in order to get done with mine before Christmas. I think what Mitchell was referring to was this, take your hand and place it on the side of your head, above the temple area. Now drag it down and at eye level you will feel a "dip", it helps to get this dip in there. Also, I like to pull the hair along the side, back slightly. Your doing GREAT, keep at it. Mitchell, if I'm wrong, please correct me, can't hurt the old man's feelings.

| | Re: First Attempt at Santas Thanks again for everyone's kind words! I didn't get them painted over the weekend but I plan on finishing up this week.....hopefully! I will post the finished pictures when they are complete.
I'm now working on my first Pete Leclair caricature....start to finish without a bandsaw. I'm running in to a few problems with getting rid of the unneeded wood with the tools that I have. I think it is time to ask for those tools as an early Christmas present.
Thanks again for all your comments!
