jillsy,
i found it best to carve the body like lynns blog instructs, with the collar intact on the body, then inside the middle of the collar drill a hole smaller the size of the neck to be used, carve the head with a super long neck shaped like a golf "t"..

my experience, as you may find if you get into the situation when carving separate head, that it dont move far enough to your liking for the position its in,
you can shorten the long end of the neck and reshape the taper towards being more sharp... dont re carve the neck area where it fits the collar or you'll have the jaw setting on the shoulders... this allows more tilt....

Jillsy, I like 'em and I think you are a very creative artist and show your own style. I wish I had the ability to do that, maybe it will come with time and experience. Did I say time. OOOOPs.

I especially like the sweet expression on Mrs. Claus' face.

Great work!

Well, I'm not sure how my Big Swelled Head is gonna make it thru the door now!

I really appreciate all the kind comments and am surprised at the reaction. I didn't realize my painting was as good as you say. But then again, it's easy to feel this way when you compare yourself to other artists on this site!

great job Jillsy,

I am inclined to believe you are one of the best folkstyle Santa and Mrs Claus carvers out there.

As for your Mrs, I'd leave her alone, the paint is outstanding. The perspective is askew on the oranges but that is common in the folkstyle. I love them all and the cat is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing,
Doug
