Default cottonwood bark Santa

Just finished this Santa last weekend. It's about 12" long and painted with acrylic wash. I dipped it in blo after and it looked good but took a long time to dry. I never put blo on bark before. The bark soaked up the blo alot.

That is a slick santa. I have seen a few bark carvings and thought about trying it myself. The thing is I do not know if you approach bark as you would plain wood. I plan experimenting a bit more this coming year with materials.
